January 07, 2008 While Georgia's President Preference Primary is not until Feb. 5, voters can go ahead and request an absentee ballot.
Voters are not required to provide a reason when requesting an absentee ballot, which allows the voter to participate in an election without visiting a polling location. Instead, the ballot is mailed directly to the voter.
Requests can be made at the Secretary of State's Web site: http://sos.georgia.gov/elections/. The application should be completed and returned to the county elections office.
Voters can also contact the county elections office directly and fill out the application form.
Absentee ballots can be requested through Feb. 1, and all ballots must be received by the county registrar by 7 p.m. on election day. Photo identification is not requested when voting by mail.
