January 07, 2008 As temperatures drop into the low teens or even lower in North Georgia, Sawnee EMC officials say the electric cooperative stands ready to meet the needs of its members.
"We are staging our operations staff in key locations to prepare for a quick response to power outages should any problems develop during this cold snap," said Blake House, vice president of Member and Energy Services. "We are not expecting any problems; however, we know things sometimes happen such as a car hitting a pole or a squirrel getting into our lines, and should temperatures plummet as low as projected, we want to be prepared to respond quickly if needed."
Sawnee EMC, headquarted in Cumming, serves more than 142,000 accounts through 9,000-plus miles of distribution lines throughout North Georgia in a seven-county service area, including Forsyth and part of North Fulton. More than 300 professionals work for Sawnee EMC.
