December 26, 2007 A Cumming mother and her two children were injured by a driver arrested for DUI in an early evening wreck Dec. 11 on Buford Highway at Marketplace Boulevard in Cumming.
The children, a 14-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl, were transported by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital and Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, respectively. Their mother, Jennifer Rao, 40, was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital.
Their conditions are unknown at press time.
Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Specialist Sgt. Chris Shelton said the wreck occurred when a 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by Rao turned left into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Gregory L. Wills, 40, of Buford.
According to Sgt. Shelton, Rao was northbound on Buford Highway and Wills was traveling southbound. Wills' pickup truck struck the Caravan broadside on the passenger side.
Wills was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence and two counts of causing serious injury by motor vehicle. He was not injured in the crash. Other charges may be forthcoming, Sgt. Shelton said, pending completion of the investigation.
