Alpharetta police working with a Roswell tactical team swooped down on a Roswell hotel Dec. 13 to arrest a 32-year-old man accused of raping a woman after subduing her with a stun gun.
The suspect, Dean M. Fontenelle, is in jail on four felony counts, including rape, kidnapping, aggravated assault and false imprisonment, said Officer George Gordon, a spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
Fontenelle was arrested at the Brookwood Inn on Old Dogwood Road in Roswell after failing to surrender himself. Roswell's tactical unit was used because interviews with Fontenelle's coworkers and family revealed he had stated he would kill himself or attempt escape rather than go to jail.
The 23-year-old victim of the crime told investigators Fontenelle, who had a previous relationship with her roommate, came to her Alpharetta apartment Dec. 10. There he allegedly subdued her with a stun gun while she was at home alone. The victim said he then bound her wrists and ankles with duct tape and raped her.
The victim said he took her to his Saturn, put her in the trunk and drove around North Fulton for about two hours. For reasons she can't explain, she said he stopped near her apartment and let her out at gunpoint, according to police.
"She said he pulled out the gun and told her he would kill her if she contacted authorities, then departed," said Gordon.
Alpharetta detectives first went to where Fontenelle worked. There they reportedly found a stun gun on a desk similar to the one used in the assault.
Gordon said police do not have an address for Fontenelle. The evidence in the case has been turned over to the GBI.
