December 05, 2007 Alpharetta resident Albert J. DeCusati has been inducted into the North Haven High School Hall of Fame as an athlete.
DeCusati lettered three years in football, basketball and baseball, and was voted Most Athletic in the Class of 1975. His football talent and hard work was recognized on the local level and the state level as he was voted All State Honorable Mention as well as All Housatonic his senor year despite being injured most of the season. In the spring of his senior year, DeCusati made Second Team All Housatonic and was voted co-captain of the 1975 Connecticut State Champion Baseball Team. One of his fondest memories is making the game-winning hit in the semi-final game at the state championship. "It was Coach DeMayo's first State Championship," he recalled.
DeCusati was also an active member of the student body. He was freshman class president, homeroom representative and junior class honor guard. He was also the recipient of the Yale Club's of New Haven Scholarship.
DeCusati went on to earn three varsity letters at Yale University in football. He was the team representative his senior year. He also played varsity baseball at Yale for one year. DeCusati graduated from Yale in 1979 with a bachelor's of arts degree. He received a Juris Doctorate from Emory University. During that time he also played for the 1982 Georgia Pride (American Football Association) and in 1983 he played for the Birmingham Stallions (United States Football League).
DeCusati is a partner with McLain & Merritt, P.C. as a trial lawyer. He initiated and oversees the firm's summer intern diversity program and is a member of the American Trial Lawyer's Association and the Georgia Bar Association.
In his spare time he coaches youth football, baseball and basketball in the Big Brother Program, and serves on the Advisory Council for the Atlanta Figure Skating Club.
DeCusati and his wife, Jill, live in Alpharetta with their three children Justin, 21, Tatiana, 16, and Anna, 15.
