From the parade in the morning to the Lights for Sight event in the evening, residents and city officials were busy honoring the city's first official year in business.
The opening ceremonies kicked off the day with comments from city leaders, Fulton County Commissioner Lynne Riley, state Sen. Dan Moody and Congressman Tom Price while people lined the street, eagerly awaiting the parade. Price said of all the cities, Johns Creek has made cityhood look easy.
Chattahoochee and Northview high school marching bands provided holiday music as the parade strolled a little more than a mile down State Bridge Road.
Shriners, Boy Scout troops, dance teams, political figures, firefighters and policemen waved as they passed by the crowd.
In the afternoon, citizens gathered at City Hall for Lights for Sight. Johns Creek school orchestras set the mood with holiday music as people sipped hot chocolate and filled their tummies with barbecue.
Mayor Mike Bodker flipped the switch around 6 p.m. to light the city's holiday tree and dradle, which sit atop a hill adjacent to City Hall.
