August 28, 2007 The Center for Mediation, Peace, and Resolution of Conflict (CEMPROC) will host the Taste of Latin America benefit dinner and celebration on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m. on the grounds of Cane Creek Farm in Forsyth County.
Tickets are $25, half price for children under 12.
The event celebrates food and culture from all over Latin America, with the proceeds going to support conflict resolution work in Ecuador and the United States.
Last year's event was a success, according to organizers, with 120 people attending from nine different countries, raising over $3,000.
The event will feature Latin American food prepared by local cooks from several different countries, with some of the dishes using locally grown, organic ingredients from Cane Creek Farm.
The evening will also showcase live Latin American music and dance by the Cumming International Folkloric Group and other artists. A silent auction, video presentations, and an art contest celebrating the International Day of Peace will round out the celebration. Kids will enjoy the farm animals and hay rides, as well as the live entertainment.
The funds raised by last year's event have supported conflict resolution training programs in Ecuador and the United States that served more than 1,000 adults, college students, and children over the past year.
"Peacemaking requires a sustained community effort and the determination to stick with it over the long term. We have been very fortunate that the community has shared this vision, and their support has borne fruit with each changed life," said Pugh. "The Taste of Latin America celebration is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the culture of the region and to support this important work. We invite everyone to come, kick back, and have a great time."
CEMPROC is a nonprofit organization based in Forsyth County with an additional chapter in Quito, Ecuador. Since 2003, it has provided training in effective conflict resolution and communication skills, including negotiation and mediation, to nearly 3,000 community leaders, college students, and children in the United States and Ecuador.
