Four horses found dead in pastures

Cumming, Ga. man charged with animal cruelty

CUMMING, Ga. — A man was charged with animal cruelty after four horses were found dead at his property in the 5000 block of Franklin Goldmine Road in Cumming, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s incident report.

A search warrant for the property executed April 10 led deputies to the four horses. They apparently were dumped there and had been dead for over a month.

Roque P. Hernandez, 37, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and four counts of failure to dispose of dead animals.

Another horse found in the stables was described as “very ill and needed treatment.”

That horse’s ribs and hipbones were all visible, and the horse was very weak.

The property owner’s son told deputies that the horse had been sick for more than a month and that they did not have a veterinarian to care for the horse.
