Perimeter Church dedicates new facility in honor of local entrepreneur

October 08, 2010
Johns Creek - On Sept. 19, Perimeter Church honored Cecil B. Day, a former Peachtree Corners resident and founder of Days Inn Hotels.

When Randy Pope, founding pastor of Perimeter Church, and his wife, Carol, moved to Atlanta in 1977, they had little money to spare and no meeting place. Pope knew of Day's heart for the church, and he secured a chance meeting with Day. Day offered Perimeter his old office space as the first meeting place for their worship services.

Because of Day's generosity, Perimeter Church was able to start meeting and began to grow. Day continued to be involved until his death in 1978. Pope said that, "literally on his death bed, Day would call and ask 'how's the church doing?'"

After Day's passing, the leadership of Perimeter stated that if and when it would have its own property, it would desire to build a chapel in honor of Day. Thirty-three years later, the Cecil B. Day Chapel was dedicated on Sunday, Sept. 19.
