Forsyth seeks park concepts

FORYSTH COUNTY - Concepts for six county parks -- Eagle's Beak, Sawnee Mountain Preserve Phase III, Lanierland and the Harrison, Buice and McClure properties —will be sought by the county.

The Forsyth Board of Commissioners OK'd sending out for bids for the conceptual master plans, with money coming the Parks & Recreation bond and SPLOST VI.

"This isn't building. This is conceptual master plans," said Jerry Kinsey, director of Parks & Recreation.

• Eagle's Beak (purchased with bond greenspace funds): $1 million in bond funds for phase 1, consisting of canoe launch area, parking, pavilion and hiking trails. 225 acres. District 4.

• Lanierland (purchased with bond monies): North community park, $3.4 million possible in bond joint venture parks for rectangle fields, baseball/softball fields, concession/restroom facilities and trails. Active park, 90.5 acres. Passive park, 18.5 acres. District 4.

• Harrison property (purchased with bond greenspace funds): No monies allocated. Natural trails, pavilions, natural playground, environmental education, parking and restrooms. Passive park, 63 acres. District 2.

• Buice property (purchased with bond greenspace funds): No monies allocated. Natural trails, playground and pavilion. Passive park, 39 acres. Active park, 5 acres for rec center. District 2.

• McClure property (purchased with bond greenspace funds): No monies allocated. Hiking trails, restroom, pavilions, parking. Passive park, 100 acres on Chattahoochee River. District 2.

• Sawnee Mountain Preserve, Phase III: Hiking trails, parking, pavilion.
