MILTON - Russ Hayes, CEO of North Central Georgia’s Habitat for Humanity, began the heartwarming First Nail Ceremony that took place on the cold Feb. 20 morning at Centennial Village.

Though Habitat for Humanity has built countless homes here in the U.S. and more still overseas, this particular First Nail Ceremony epitomized Habitat’s ultimate goal to, in the words of St. Francis, “Preach the Gospel at all times and, when necessary, use words.”

These are the choice words Hayes used as he commenced the First Nail Ceremony to remind his volunteers Habitat for Humanity is an Ecumenical Christian ministry that always attempts to teach the Gospel through action.

Habitat for Humanity did just that as they and volunteers from neighboring businesses and schools joined together to build new homes for the Adams, Dente and Thompson families, all of whom were smiling and ready to thank the kind volunteers.

Evelyn Dente accounted for her family’s fortune by saying, “We just want to thank the Lord God has been so good to us. We are so excited.”

Hayes said these words of gratitude toward God could not have been more appropriate.

“These [Habitat] houses are not fully funded,” he said. “We are building on faith.”

Habitat for Humanity houses are built thanks to ongoing donations from local businesses as well as the joint physical effort to build the houses from kind volunteers.
