Enrollment swells at Lanier Tech
|
November 23, 2009 In the midst of an economic downturn, technical colleges such as Lanier Tech are crowded with students.
The school’s Russell Vandiver said current enrollment is 1,000 students higher than a year ago, about a 25 percent increase.
“We are bursting at the seams,” he said.
The college has the same challenges as other state institutions and even local businesses with budget cuts.
“I don’t see how our staff is doing it. I’m in my 34th year, I ain’t never seen anything like it,” Vandiver said with emphasis.
And he doesn’t expect the enrollment increase to stop until unemployment drops back down.
Vandiver anticipates another year or more of this type of enrollment.
