'Giving Tree' brings holiday to local children
|
November 23, 2009 Forsyth County - The YMCA Holiday Giving Tree for Kids, once coordinated through The Place of Forsyth County, provides Christmas gifts to children of low-income families in Forsyth County.
Made possible by a network of local businesses, corporations, churches and civic groups throughout the community, this program has grown to serve more than 1,000 children each year. As in the past, sponsors can sign up and receive one or more children, their wish lists and shop for the gifts. All presents are distributed before Christmas to the parents while their children are in school. Sponsors are asked to spend between $100 to $125 per child.
Jerry Dupree, Coordinator of the Holiday Giving program, said the program remains the same as it did when The Place managed it.
"There is nothing different about this program except a new name and a new location. Otherwise, all the details are the same."
The Place continues to be an active partner with this program along with the Forsyth County Family YMCA, United Way of Forsyth County and the Forsyth County School System. Each of these organizations plays a vital role in making this program available to the community.
If you, your family, business, church group, school club or civic organization would like to be a sponsor, contact the YMCA at 678-341-6337 to sign up. Holiday Giving Tree for Kids brings hope and encouragement to children and families who, most of all, need to believe in a community that cares.
