Igleheart-Pollack council race too close to call
|
November 06, 2009 Three days after the election, it is still too close to call the Post 4 seat held by two-term Councilman Kent Igleheart, who leads challenger Jim Pollack by 16 votes.
A few disputed votes will be evaluated at 6 p.m. Friday, and the final certification of the election will take place at noon Saturday, Nov. 7.
As it stands, Igleheart has 50.02 percent of the vote; Pollack garnered 49.86 percent. After the balloting is certified on Saturday, the loser of this race will have until Tuesday to request a recount, according to Roswell City Clerk Sue Creel.
Evidently, provisional votes have already been counted. These are votes in which there was some uncertainty about a valid I.D. or whether the voter has properly registered. Those votes which for some mechanical reason were not scanned by the machines will be the ones counted after a determination from a two-person panel pre-selected before the election.
It will be the panel's job to determine if the voter's intent is clear enough to count the ballot. If so, the ballot will be counted.
