International dyslexia scholars speak at Roswell workshop
|
November 04, 2009 Roswell – On Sept. 25, educators from more than 20 Georgia public and private schools participated in a day-long seminar with internationally renowned dyslexia scholars Dr. Gavin Reid and Shannon Green.
The workshop took place at Roswell's The Cottage School and The Swift School, which were the presenting sponsors of this event.
The seminar culminated a two-day visit to Atlanta designed to focus on the challenge of teaching and raising a dyslexic child. The visit began Sept. 24 with a presentation by Reid to the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools and also included a community forum on Thursday evening attended by more than 200 parents.
The Schenck School and Mill Springs Academy assisted in sponsoring the two-days' activities.
Reid is the author of 23 books on teacher education in the field of dyslexia and literacy learning styles. He wrote and developed the first masters course in specific learning difficulties in the United Kingdom, as well as being the co-founder and director of the Red Rose School, a school for students with specific learning difficulties.
