ALPHARETTA - Mike Kennedy wins his election to Alpharetta City Council Post 2 by a wide margin, but the race in Post 3 was much closer. Though Chris Owens only had 41.6 percent of the votes, that was more than the other two candidates so he will join Kennedy as a new face on council.
Alpharetta's election laws require a plurality, not a majority of the votes, unlike several orther North Fulton cities.Owens defeated Tom Miller and John Keim for the Post 3 seat in unoffical returns.
The city's plan to increase its Homestead Exemption by $10,000 over the next two years appears headed for an easy approval, with 93 percent of the 3,241 voters saying yes.
Doug Derito was unopposed in his bid to keep his Post 1 council seat, as was Municipal Judge Jim Matoney. Both will continue in office with four-year terms.
