Local business women go 'on air'
|
November 03, 2009 Forsyth County - Denise Carleton and Mary Nix a/k/a/ Petunia Garner of Reaping Nature Productions, a Forsyth County-based environmental programs education company, went "ON AIR" Oct. 9 on "The Antonio Smith Show" with the show's host, Antonio Smith and Eco-Mom, Marla Prince. "The Antonio Smith Show" is a weekly radio show on WIGO 1570 AM out of Ellenwood, Georgia.
"We were so excited to receive this opportunity to talk live about who we are and what we are doing," said Carleton.
One caller was a student, Alec, from Daves Creek Elementary. He asked how a mattress could be recycled. Nix directed this question to Carleton for response.
"I told Alec to go to www.earth911.com to find a charitable organization that would take such a donation," said Carleton. "When I got home I searched this site and found no locations in our area that take them. However, when you Google it, a bunch of sources pop up. I also know that my neighbors recently donated a mattress and box spring to the Salvation Army."
Carleton and Nix founded their company back in August of 2008. They provide environmental education programs to schools (pre-K through grade 5), clubs, civic groups, organizations and at community and special events, having performed for ages three to 93. The duo met volunteering for the Forsyth County School System at Daves Creek Elementary.
Both are approved substitute teachers for the school system. Nix created her character, Petunia Garner, over six years ago as part of the promotion for a PTA Reflections event. She never envisioned that Petunia would still be in demand and be promoting the environment.
