Forsyth teaches Greenway safety

November 03, 2009 Forsyth County – Local residents can learn how to stay safe while enjoying the new Big Creek Greenway multi-use trail by attending upcoming 'Safety on the Big Creek Greenway' events.
At the events, representatives from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and Forsyth County park rangers will provide information about trail rules and regulations, hours of operation, trail patrols and safety precautions.
The first event will be Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. at the Sheriff's Office North Precinct. The North Precinct is located at 2310 Keith Bridge Road (Hwy. 306) inside Central Park.
The second event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at Sharon Springs Park, located at 1950 Sharon Road.
"We held a 'Safety on the Big Creek Greenway' event Oct. 20 and it was a great success," Director of Parks and Recreation Jerry Kinsey said. "The county is pleased to be able to host two additional events on this topic. Forsyth County wants to educate our residents about the trail, and also be proactive in informing citizens about the proper precautions they can take to have a safe and enjoyable experience on the greenway."
The Big Creek Greenway in Forsyth County is a 12-foot wide concrete and boardwalk path meandering through the deciduous woods along the Big Creek.
The greenway offers an ideal setting for walking, jogging, biking and inline skating. Phases 2 and 3 of the trail are now open for use.
These phases start at Ga. 9 and end at Bethelview Road, covering approximately 2.94 miles. Work is continuing on Phase 1, which starts at McFarland Parkway and ends at the Fowler Park site at Ga. 9.
