Bazaar offers something for all in Cumming
|
November 03, 2009 Cumming – Sandi Abbott is excited.
Abbott, Janice Smith and about 20 other volunteers with the First Baptist Cumming Church have been working countless hours to prepare for the annual Fall Bazaar scheduled for Nov. 14. They will welcome a total of 40 booths and all proceeds go to various missions both local and abroad.
"It's a lot of work to prepare for," she said, "but it rewards more than the work. At times, you feel like it might not all come together, but it's all rewarding. We reap the rewards all year long because the money raised goes to help so many people. It's all joy afterward. This is truly a labor of love."
Fellow church member Cathy Schroeder agreed.
"The great thing about the Bazaar is that there is something for everybody," she said. "The hardest thing about being a volunteer is not knowing if you'll find time to shop when you are volunteering."
Schroeder said the church really aims to be "the church that gives itself away."
"We hope our actions show that we live that mission statement," she said.
The event includes a bake sale and silent auction as well as breakfast and lunch.
Some of the local missions benefiting from the Fall Bazaar include Home of the Brave Quilt who presents quilts to the families of fallen soldiers, Angel Connection who ministers to single mothers, Angel Tree who supports the Georgia Baptist Children's home and more.
