'Days of Giving' recognize local non-profits
|
November 03, 2009 Forsyth County - Wachovia's employees chose seven non-profits, six of them based in Forsyth County, for grants as part of the first Days of Giving program for Atlanta. The program was celebrated in north Atlanta at Roswell Founders Hall on Oct. 20.
Receiving $1,000 checks were the following Forsyth groups: Mentor Me – North Georgia Inc., The Place of Forsyth County, Rainbow Village Inc., Habitat for Humanity - North Central GA, Metropolitan Serenity House, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Forsyth County.
Also chosen for a grant by Forsyth employees was the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Atlanta. Frontline employees in bank branches and business banking offices selected groups that were delivering services in their areas.
The donations to the groups were among more than 200 contributions, each for $1,000, to non-profits across the Atlanta area being made at five community events. It was the first initiative of its kind in Atlanta, and Wachovia had not helped most of the groups before.
The Days of Giving program came about as a result of combining Wachovia with Wells Fargo, noted Sean Mabey, community bank president for Wachovia in north Atlanta.
The grants all came from the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation. Across Atlanta Wachovia has 5,000 employees and serves customers at some 200 locations.
