Forsyth wants grant for trail equipment
|
November 03, 2009 Forsyth County will apply for a state grant to pay most of the cost of buying a front end loader and enclosed sweeper to help maintain the Big Creek Greenway and other greenspace trails. The need was shown after recent flooding left tree limbs and mud along the greenway.
The Ga. Department of Natural Resources' Recreational Trails grant requires a 20 percent match, putting Forsyth's share of the cost at $12,560 and the state's at $50,240. If the grant is awarded, it won't be until June 2010. The county still has to set its budget for next year, so Director Jerry Kinsey said during the Oct. 27 Board of Commissioners' work session that he couldn't be sure the funds would be available.
The county had to lease equipment for $195 a day, Procurement Director Donna Kukarola said.
