November 03, 2009 Forsyth County – The Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) recognized the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department as the District 7 Agency of the Year, the fifth time it has earned this distinction. Forsyth County is one of 39 agencies in GRPA's District 7.
The Parks and Recreation Department received the award Oct. 21 during the GRPA banquet in Gainesville. The department previously won Agency of the Year in 2003, 2000, 1997 and 1991.
The Agency of the Year award focuses on facilities maintained and programs provided.
"The quality facilities and programs in Forsyth County are the result of the work of dedicated staff members who take pride in their jobs and in serving our citizens," Parks and Recreation Director Jerry Kinsey said. "The support of the Board of Commissioners and the Parks and Recreation Board also helps us continually improve what we are able to offer to the community."
Athletic Manager Wayne Maddox won the District 7 Programmer of the Year award. He manages youth and adult athletic programs in the county. He has also been actively involved in bringing lacrosse, youth track meets, triathlons and the Miracle League to Forsyth County.
