Residents learn HOA leadership
|
October 28, 2009 JOHNS CREEK - Several Johns Creek Community Association (JCCA) members have expressed interest in learning best practices for homeowners' association (HOA) leadership recently, so the JCCA invited The Barrister Law Group to discuss homeowner association issues and responsibilities Oct. 22.
The program, led by attornies Timothy Boyd and Ted McCain, discussed various ways HOAs can build a community within their neighborhood, how to identify and train new leaders and ways to attract volunteers.
"You want to make sure everyone feels a part of the group," said Boyd. "If you encourage participation and create that situation, you'll have happier homeowners."
Assessment collection was discussed at length, since the majority of the 20 people in attendance had questions regarding that issue. Boyd said each homeowner association varies on covenants and bylaws, but discussed various ways HOA boards can collect payment from delinquent homeowners.
Several attendees discussed the increasing number of rental properties in neighborhoods. Some HOA representatives shared stories about specific situations in their neighborhood and were able to receive feedback from other neighborhoods on how they handled a similar
situations.
A recording of the program will be available on the JCCA's Web site, www.jcca-fulton.org under "Community Meetings."
