|
October 21, 2009 ATLANTA — Join Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Santa Claus and his reindeer along the streets of downtown Atlanta for one of the Southeast's premier holiday parades.
Now in its 29th year, the Children's Christmas Parade will kick off the holiday season Dec. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Attracting more than 300,000 spectators annually, the Children's Christmas Parade is the largest Christmas parade in the Southeast. Proceeds from the 2009 Children's Christmas Parade will help fund programs and equipment to serve the patients and families at Children's.
"The Children's Christmas Parade is a tradition that families look forward to throughout the year," said Kitty Correll, chairman of this year's parade. "We are thankful for the opportunity to provide Atlanta with a memorable holiday experience that also raises money to support the health care needs of Georgia's children."
As the honorary patient face of this year's parade, Ryan Lewis, 5, a heart transplant recipient from Fayetteville, Ga., will lead Santa Claus, his reindeer, award-winning marching bands, floats, dance groups and giant helium balloons along the parade route. Ryan and his family will be joined by Atlanta Brave Tim Hudson and his wife and children.
The Children's Christmas Parade begins at Peachtree Street near Baker Street in downtown Atlanta. The route follows Peachtree Street, turns right onto Marietta Street and finishes along Centennial Olympic Park Drive.
The event is free and open to the public. For those seeking front-row access, $12 tickets for reserved bleacher seating will go on sale Oct. 1, 2009. The Children's Christmas Parade will also air live on WSB-TV Channel 2 (ABC).
Attendees are encouraged to use MARTA for event transportation. The Five Points and Peachtree Center stations are within walking distance of the parade route. For more information, visit www.choa.org/parade.
