Walk/run aims to end poverty

October 14, 2009 ATLANTA – An estimated 7,000 people are expected to participate in the Partnership Walk/Run in Centennial Olympic Park Oct. 25 to demonstrate support aimed at ending global poverty.
A 5K run/walk is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the 1K run/walk starting at 11:30 a.m. at Centennial Olympic Park, 265 Park Avenue West in Atlanta.
The public event is focused on raising awareness and funds to help communities in Africa and Asia become self-reliant. Partnership Walk is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation, which focuses on reducing illiteracy, hunger, disease and poverty with more than 100 programs in 18 countries (www.akdn.org/usa).
The Partnership Walk is a national event held sine 1995 in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles. During the past 14 years, more than 280,000 have participated in the United States to raise $32 million.
