Young Life launched in Johns Creek
|
October 14, 2009 Johns Creek - Young Life officially launched in Johns Creek Oct. 3 as 150 friends and supporters gathered at Dean Gardens for "A Night Under the Stars" with singer/songwriter Allen Levi.
Young Life is a non-denominational Christian ministry for local adolescents. Though it just officially launched, the local Johns Creek chapter has been two years in the making.
"Our committee members have been praying, meeting, planning and fundraising for the last two years and Saturday's magical event at Dean Gardens was a fitting way to introduce Young Life to Johns Creek," said Susan Peterson, Johns Creek Young Life committee chair. "Everyone involved has great hope for the future of local teens and we are thrilled to begin our work in this community."
Allen Levi, a musician and storyteller, entertained as he shared his perspective on life through songs that celebrate the small moments of everyday experience. His music offers a reflective and unhurried consideration of life which, on this night, highlighted the commitment, sacrifice and overflowing joy found through investing in the lives of youth.
Staffer Allen Dixon was also introduced as the chapter's first area director. Dixon, along with a team of caring adult volunteer leaders, is committed to being involved with kids' lives. Offering hope for their future, these leaders attend teens' sporting events, listen to their concerns and actively participate in their high school experience. Perhaps most of all, however, Young Life is most known for fun.
"From our weekly meetings called 'club' to camp and other activities, teenagers have a blast through Young Life, " said Dixon. "Kids are able to be themselves, try new things and hang out with friends. Our adult leaders join in the fun, become these kids' friends and ultimately play a major role in positively directing the future of their lives."
