Alpharetta's Public Safety Foundation, a non-profit group dedicated to supporting the city's Public Safety Department, gave out its first four $1,000 scholarships to recipients Aug. 14.

The scholarships are for continuing education for those involved in the public safety department.

Recipients were: Lisa Hewitt, who attends American Intercontinental University; Lt. Sean Woods, who attends Reinhardt College; Kimberley Chmielewski, who attends Georgia College and State University; and Amanda Clay, a student at Georgia State University.

"If it weren't for this scholarship, I couldn't have gone back to school this semester," said Woods. "I've already signed over the check to Reinhardt."
