CUMMING - Two rising seniors from Forsyth County have been selected to represent the community in the Georgia Junior Miss Scholarship Program, to be held at the Jenny T. Anderson Theater in Marietta, Aug. 1.

Cumming Junior Miss Olivia Fletcher, a student at West Forsyth, and Forsyth County Junior Miss Audrey Darnell, a student at Forsyth Central, will compete with 23 other Junior Miss title holders from across the state for an academic scholarship, the title of Georgia's Junior Miss and a chance to be America's Junior Miss 2010.

Contestants are judged on academic achievement, community involvement, personal interview, expression, talent and physical fitness, as demonstrated in an extensive aerobic routine.

America's Junior Miss is the oldest scholarship program of its kind for young women. The competition is open only to high school seniors.

Both Fletcher and Darnell earned their local titles through an at-large competition with other contestants from all over Georgia pursuing a chance to compete for the scholarship and state title.

Darnell's plans are to pursue a degree in environmental law but has not excluded studying journalism. Fletcher's interests include medicine, law and journalism as well.

Darnell is considering University of Georgia or Florida State. Fletcher is interested in Vanderbilt and Stanford.
