June 23, 2009
ROSWELL – Phil Shaw has taken over as interim president and chief executive officer at North Fulton Regional Hospital. He will serve in this capacity until the hospital selects a permanent candidate for this administrative role.

A national search process, led by a board-appointed committee, has been engaged.

A veteran of the healthcare industry for more than 30 years, Shaw has spent the majority of his career with AMI/Tenet Healthcare, joining the system in 1977. He helped to establish Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, where he served as CEO for 10 years. During the last six years, Shaw has assumed a similar interim role at eight different hospitals across the country, including those in Tucson, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Lafayette and Austin.

Since his arrival at North Fulton Regional Hospital, Shaw has had the opportunity to address many staff members through various Town Hall sessions and visit with many physicians on the medical staff. Through these sessions and visits, in addition to his everyday interactions with staff members, Shaw said he has been impressed by the quality, energy and caring attitude of the North Fulton Regional Hospital Team.

"My approach to this job is not one of maintenance. I like to keep things moving forward," Shaw said. "Since arriving here I have found that North Fulton Regional Hospital is a healthy organization with outstanding quality of care. I just don't think our community really knows what we do and how well we do it."

Shaw obtained his business degree from the University of Tennessee and attended AMI's Corporate College for Healthcare Executives. He currently is a principal for Spectrum Health Partners LLC, a healthcare consulting firm based out of Tennessee. He lives in Griffin with his wife. They have five children and five grandchildren, all of whom reside in metro-Atlanta, so his temporary stay in Alpharetta is a welcome visit with family.

North Fulton Regional Hospital, part of Tenet Georgia, is a 202-bed, acute-care hospital located on Ga. 9 in Roswell. Opened in 1983, itH serves North Fulton and surrounding counties through its team of more than 1,000 employees, 400 staff physicians and 200 volunteers.

The hospital is a state-designated Level II trauma center and provides a continuum of services through its centers and programs, including neurosciences, orthopedics, rehabilitation, surgical services, bariatric surgical weight loss, gastroenterology and oncology. The hospital is fully accredited and also is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation's oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
