Grady patients benefit from 'community days
June 11, 2009
ATLANTA – Grady Health System recently announced that patients at the hospital will be the recipients of 250 care packages from McKesson's "Community Days" volunteer project. The packages, containing toiletries and blankets, will be handed out to patients at Grady Hospital and Crestview, the health system's rehabilitation and long-term care facility, beginning on April 30.

They were assembled this week by McKesson employee volunteers at the company's National Sales Meeting in Atlanta.

"We are honored to accept these care packages on behalf of our patients," said Grady's Chief Nursing Officer Rhonda Scott, Ph.D. "Sometimes it is the simplest gift-a toothbrush or warm blanket-that makes all the difference in the world to a patient."

"Grady Health System contributes significantly to the health and well-being of patients in the Atlanta area and beyond, including some of the most vulnerable in our community," said Kevan Torgerson, Group President, Customer Operations, McKesson. "I am proud that our employees once again showed their volunteer spirit and dedicated their time to help others."

McKesson Corporation's "Community Days" is a national program that encourages employees to take a paid day off and participate in coordinated group volunteer projects with fellow co-workers. This year approximately 16,000 McKesson employees across the country and around the globe volunteered their time to assemble care packages for hospitalized veterans and other local, nonprofit organization.
