Cumming man killed in head-on collision

June 08, 2009 FORSYTH COUNTY — A 39-year-old Cumming man is dead after slamming head-on into a large landscaping truck June 3 on Ga. 9 in southern Forsyth County.
Investigator Ron Tomblin of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said the deceased, Sean T. Strickland, was killed on impact when his 2004 Nissan Altima crossed the center line of Ga. 9 north near Castleberry Road and hit the landscaping truck, which was traveling south at about 2:02 p.m.
Capt. Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department said the accident happened just a few hundred yards from Fire Station 2, so rescue personnel were on scene almost instantly.
However, there was nothing they could do, he said, as Strickland was killed when he hit the truck.
Tomblin said five witnesses confirmed Strickland "suddenly" veered across the road into the truck, a 2005 International 4000 series. No charges will be filed against the other driver, a 35-year-old Duluth man.
The investigator said neither alcohol nor speed appeared to play a factor in the crash.
"I don't know that we'll ever know why he crossed that center lane," said Tomblin.
Strickland is survived by his wife, Jenna, and 3-year-old daughter, Gabbi.
