As part of the events, 10 percent of the sales brought in from patrons supporting that night's charity goes back to the group featured. Diners need only tell their server whom they are supporting that night.
"We are educating our staff through one-on-one contact and interaction with the children, by teaching about the diseases, and by adding special dietary foods to our menu which are not available at any other restaurant," said Sarah Howell, manager of the Chili's on North Point Parkway. "Unfortunately many special needs kids are faced with tough allergies which limit their choice of food. Imagine not even being able to eat a hamburger or enjoy any kind of dairy at all."
Howell said, her location features a gluten-free menu, carries gluten- and dairy-free hamburger buns, dairy-free cheese, and has eight other allergen menus available.
Howell knows firsthand how important the nights are. Her 4-year-old sister has autism, she said.
"Currently we have been able to donate over $1,000 towards the treatment and research of Down Syndrome, Autism, and Mitochondrial disease," said Howell.
The schedule for Special Needs Nights is:
• TACA (Talk About Curing Autism) on the first Tuesday of the month
• The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation on the second Tuesday
• The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta on the third Tuesday
• The North Fulton Optimist Club on the fourth Tuesday.
• Autism Speaks on the second Thursday of every month
