JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Ammersee Lakes resident Arun Misra, Ph.D., has announced his candidacy for one of the open seats on the Johns Creek City Council. He said he will decide which seat at the end of qualifying March 5.

Misra retired from a 20-year career as a research scientist and college professor and a second career of 25 years in real estate and insurance sales. Now, he wants to give back to his city of 15 years and run for council.

"I want to apply this knowledge and skills for the improvement of the quality of life for the citizens of Johns Creek, and to see that the city grows further and attracts quality people and businesses into its limits," Misra said.

That begins with making the city itself more attractive with better streetscapes.

"We don't have a post office, we don't have a big mall where we can shop. We don't even have our own ZIP code. We don't have these things, and it hurts the city not to have them," he said.

Another reason for his campaign is to make minorities and immigrants more politically aware and involved.

"I come to all the City Council meetings, and I do not see people from minority backgrounds attending," Misra said. "We have so many moving here from foreign countries, especially from China and India, and I do not see them participating.

"I go to every meeting at the Johns Creek Community Association, Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce, and I don't see them there. We have so many here who are affluent and not involved in civic life," he said.

He would advocate for more international programs for the international community in Johns Creek – on their customs and religion.

"That will make them feel more welcome. Then we can recruit them to participate more in community life. I have done some programs for the Indian and Korean communities at the Spruill Oaks Library," he said.

Misra says they should take steps to become more involved, but it helps if they receive an invitation.

He also supports the economic development efforts of the Chamber of Commerce and Johns Creek Advantage to improve the city tax digest. The city's commercial spaces are underused, Misra said.

Another major goal of the city should be to attract a college or university campus within Johns Creek. This would improve the quality of life in the city. Another longer range project should be a cultural arts center. The city has an arts center and an orchestra, but these are in private or rented facilities.

"We want to create opportunities for people to not only live here but work here and enjoy life here," Misra said.

Arun Misra is a great person to be in leadership for Johns Creek

I have known Arun Misra and his entire family for years. The Indian community as well as my Korean neighbors are well known to me. We are blessed to have a person of such high caliber who wants to help our small city grow. I, for one among many, would dearly love our own zip code (for heaven's sake)
It is so sad to see only white faces in city meetings. The nation is rapidly integrating peoples from all over the world. My German and Irish ancestors had to fight for membership here. I have worked long and hard to help peoples of other nationalities feel welcome in our county - let's vote for Dr. Misra so he can fulfill his desire to make Johns Creek the best it can be.

PSA Residents of Johns Creek, Ga!!

Here is something you need to know about a candidate for City Council, Post 4, Arun Misra.
The family in the news clip below and their 20 year old daughter on hospice moved into an unkept home owned by Arun Misra. The house was full of mold and rats & was in poor condition. They agreed to a staging contract in which they would fix up the house and furnish it for reduced rent. They were to stay in the home till the end of the year so that their daughter could spend her final days at home with her family.
Arun Misra knew of their situation and told them to move in. Shortly after they did some upgrades, Misra gave them two weeks to move out stating that he was canceling the staging contract. He sent prospective buyers to tour the home without telling the family as they walked right in. Misra was very impatient, intimidating and hostile. He refused to respond to any calls from Rachel Stockman of WSBTV, Ch.2. Luckily, a generous citizen in the city put them in a home for a reasonable price and gave this family some peace and refuge. He is a deeply corrupt opportunist. The young lady in the family passed three days ago.

Arun Misra wants to serve in a leadership role in Johns Creek. I hope you will see fit to feature this candidate in your publication.
    Respectfully,
    Chris Wall

Minutes ago I received an email from Arun Misra reminding people to go to the polls and of course to encourage folks to vote for him.

I can not say much about Arun Misra public service but I can say alot about his demeanor when dealing with him directly over the phone in the insurance business. Simply put he is not nice person to talk to over the phone or to handle business.

I have worked in the insurance field over 16 years with the same carrier and had the unfortunate pleasure to speak to him often on his enrollment and renewal with our carrier. He is rude, mean and shows the inability to listen or show concern in his communication over the phone or in email.

Please pay close attention to these comments when you go to your polls.
