Forsyth County man dies after being struck by a van

December 23, 2013
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A 61-year-old man was struck by a van when he tried to cross the road, Saturday, Dec. 21.

Johnie Baker, 61, was pronounced dead on the scene. Baker was struck by a van on Canton Highway Ga.20 near the Cherokee County line, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Phil Alexander.

Baker walked out in front of a full size Ford E-250 van driven by Victor Martinez, of Jasper.

Martinez stopped to render aid.

Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said Baker was walking from his home off Canton Highway and he attempted to cross the road when he was struck.

Neither the driver nor the pedestrian showed evidence of alcohol or drug impairment, Rainwater said.

The crash is under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and no charges have been filed.

    KNEW THIS MAN PERSONALLY
    March 03, 2014 | 06:07 AM

I would just like to say.....
That I knew this man PERSONALLY. I took care of him for over 10 years, and I had known him way beyond that from when I was a small child.
This was a very STRONG MINDED MAN, who believed in GOD first before anything. I know for a fact he would not have been able to 1st of all walked that distance from his home that we shared at the time, along with his son. I had to help him do just about anything at this point, such standing, walking ETC.
There is ABSOLUTELY no way this man could have ever walked that far away from where he lived, and would have NEVER attempted to even try to cross the road, knowing he could not make it on his own.
I believe this case should be looked into a little bit deeper, longer, and harder due to the fact that I know from the truth being Mr. Baker had went to the DR. earlier that week. He had been prescribed PAIN MEDICATIONS such as:
    OXYCOTIN 80 MG
    LORATAB 10 MG
    ALPRALOZAM 2 MG
I also know for a fact that MR. Baker had sold some of his medications bringing in the sum of $1200.00 between Thursday/friday morning. MR. Baker had informed me that he had made such an transaction, and that the money along with the rest of his medications had been taken from him.
There was a man who I will not aknowledge at this time who had taken over my position of being caregiver due to the fact of some bad things occurring in the home that I could not and had no control over. This person was solely responsible for MR. Baker in every way possible....HEALTH, AND ALL. But, unfortunately did not believe this mans life was worth the time, or effort.
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS AND UNDERSTAND THERE IS ALOYT MORE TO THIS STORY
    TYHANK YOU
