Forsyth ranks No. 1 healthiest in state

Fulton Co. ranks 29th

March 25, 2013
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. – Forsyth County is the healthiest county in Georgia. The county ranked first out of 159 counties in the state, according to a report ranking the health of all 50 states.

The annual report — County Health Rankings — was published by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation last week.

Behind Forsyth is Fayette, Oconee, Gwinnett and Cherokee counties.

When it comes to the least healthy, Clay, Stewart, Terrell, McDuffie and Wilcox counties make the list.

Fulton County ranked 29th.

The rankings are based on 25 factors including residents' access to medical care, physicians and dentists.

It also examines factors that influence health, including rates of childhood poverty, rates of smoking, obesity levels, teen birth rates, rates of high school graduation and college attendance, access to healthy foods, levels of physical inactivity and percentages of children living in single-parent households.

The 2013 County Health Rankings rely on a data and analysis that allows counties to see what it is that is making residents sick or healthy, and how they compare to other counties in the same state.

This is the fourth year of the rankings that will help to lay the groundwork for health improvement efforts across the country.
