Forsyth County deputy injured in early morning traffic accident

March 23, 2013
CHEROKEE CO. -- This morning (March 23) at approximately 7:30 a.m., a Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a single-car crash on Georgia Highway 369 near Julius Bridge Road in Cherokee County.

According to authorities, it appears that Deputy Sheriff Michael Cartledge was driving his patrol car, a 2008 Dodge Charger, east on Ga. Hwy. 369 when his vehicle hydroplaned and struck several trees. Deputy Sheriff Cartledge was transported by Cherokee County Fire and Rescue to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. Deputy Cartledge was wearing his seatbelt.

    Thankful for Deputy's safety

Since law enforcement officers drive thousands of miles every year it is proven that more are killed in vehicle accidents than any other incident. I'm thankful that this deputy will be able to return to the job unlike so many of our fallen brothers and sisters.

    Too fast for conditions?

I suppose no ticket or investigation as why his charger hydroplaned and crashed. That sounds like he was driving too fast for conditions. Different set of rules for the police.

You are right Henry. You or I would face a ticket at the least. I am thankful that the deputy was not seriously hurt, but still ... a marked car apparently affords one an out. Sad.

    Jumping to conclusions...

Henry & Len, the article says the accident IS being investigated. You have no idea whether or not the officer will receive a ticket or be disciplined. You've drawn conclusions without anything more than your self-righteous guesses. Save the whining until you know if there's something to actually complain about.
