March 20, 2013ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Avalon seeks input on what sort of retail the community wants.
They are ready to listen.
"We are really looking for the community to give us their input about what types of stores and restaurants they want to see come to Avalon," said Elizabeth Hagin, a spokeswoman for the project, located on Old Milton Parkway near Ga. 400.
On the Facebook page called Avalon Insider, followers post ideas, suggestions, comments or questions.
The page has about 1,200 likes and their wall is filled with retail requests for everything from independently owned coffee shops to a Willy's Mexicana Grill.
Requests lean toward high-end stores and an environment directed toward an adult community, instead of teenagers.
Hagin said the retail side of Avalon is 80 percent committed with 50 percent firm and 30 percent in negotiations.
So far, Whole Foods, Regal Cinemas, Yeah! Burger, Marlow's Tavern, Ted's Montana Grill, Anthropologie, Athleta, Arhaus, fab'rik, Banana Republic, Paper Source and Orvis have signed on to lease space.
"We're hoping to match both the stores and the Avalon experience to the lifestyles of the people in the community," Hagin said.
Hagin said a YouTube series called Inside Avalon was also launched.
"It gives a behind-the-scenes look at how the team of partners involved in creating Avalon is working together. We think this is a way to keep the community informed and excited," she said.
Monte Hewett of MH Homes, the residential builder of the development, said things are progressing well and next month, they will be making a big announcement on the residential side.
Avalon will have 250 upscale apartments for lease and 101 courtyard homes for sale.
"It's exciting to see how things are coming along," Hewett said. "We are planning some exciting events for the near future."
The development is on target to be completed in August 2014.
