FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A 65-year-old Forsyth County man shot and killed his 66-year-old wife then turned the gun on himself in what investigators have labeled as a murder-suicide that occurred Dec. 10 about 9:48 p.m. in a south Forsyth County subdivision.
John Vitkow, 65, and his wife, Nancy Lee Vitkow, 66 lived on Stonehill Drive in the Pines at Stonegate subdivision.
According to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office investigators, John called 911 and advised the dispatcher that he had killed his wife with a .357 Magnum gun.
He then told the dispatcher that he was going to leave the front door unlocked and was going to kill himself.
Deputies responded to the residence off Bagley Drive and attempted to make contact with John via a public address radio.
There was no response from the home after several attempts deputies entered the home and found the man and his wife dead.
Both had been shot.
John Vitkow had indicated in his conversation to the dispatcher that he and his wife were having marital problems that investigators speculate could have led to the murder-suicide.
