NORTH FULTON, Ga. - Nine North Fulton soccer and lacrosse teams will compete for state high school championships this weekend, with two of the title contests matching a pair of local teams.

Milton has three teams playing for state titles, including both lacrosse squads, and Blessed Trinity will be the home team in two soccer finals. Also playing for state titles are Centennial's boys soccer team, the Northview and Fellowship Christian girls and Roswell's girls lacrosse team.

The other local team still alive in the post-season is Johns Creek's baseball team, which plays in the semifinals Monday.

BOYS SOCCER

The Centennial Knights will play in the Class AAAAA boys state championship match Friday night at 8 p.m. at Collins Hill. The Knights are the top-ranked team in AAAAA and are coming off a decisive 5-1 victory over Parkview in the semifinals earlier this week in Roswell.

The Knights lost in the state championship game in 2009 and are shooting for their first state title in the sport. Centennial has outplayed its four playoff opponents 18-3, winning each match by at least two goals.

Blessed Trinity will be at home Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the AA championship match against region rival Westminster. The Titans survived a tough semifinal match against another region foe, defeating Lovett 7-6 on penalty kicks after regulation play ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Titans led Lovett 2-0 at the half before Lovett tied the game on two penalty kicks. Goalie David Guigou made the key save in the eighth round of penalty kicks to give BT the victory.

GIRLS SOCCER

In an all-North Fulton final, Milton will host Northview at 8 p.m. Saturday for the AAAAA title. The Class AA and A championship matches will be held within walking distance of each other, as Blessed Trinity and Fellowship Christian will be at home Saturday.

BT will host Greater Atlanta Christian at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the AA title match, with Fellowship Christian at home in the Class A final at 6 p.m. Saturday against First Presbyterian of Macon.

Milton rolled to a 3-0 win earlier this week at home against Collins Hill in the semifinals, with Northview continued its playoff run, defeating Harrison 4-3 on penalty kicks after the game ended in a scoreless tie.

In four playoff games, Milton has outscored its opponents 20-2, with a 3-1 victory over Hillgrove in the second round the Eagles' closest match. Northview, meanwhile, has yet to allow a goal, winnings its four playoff contests despite scoring just five goals. Taylor Erickson was in goal for the Titans against Harrison, stopping two penalty kicks.

Blessed Trinity also won its semifinal match on penalty kicks after the contest ended 0-0. The Titans defeated Westminster 4-3 on penalty kicks, with Meredith Carson stopping two of five PKs to give BT the win.

Fellowship Christian was the third local team to win on PKs, defeating Pace Academy 3-1 in the semifinals after the two teams tied 1-1. Emily Sonnett, forced into goal when the Paladins' starting keeper was red-carded, saved two penalty kicks to lift Fellowship to victory.

BOYS LACROSSE

Milton defeated Etowah 12-3 in the semifinals to reach the AAAAA finals against Lassiter, which knocked off Alpharetta 14-4. The Eagles will play at Lassiter at 6 p.m. Saturday in the championship match.

The Eagles have yielded just three goals in each of the last two games, while Lassiter has routed its three opponents by an average of 10 goals.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Milton won 20-9 at Walton to earn a AAAAA championship match against Roswell, which needed three overtimes to get past Alpharetta 14-13. The title match will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. at Milton, with the girls soccer championship to follow.

In the A-AAAA girls semifinals, Johns Creek lost to McIntosh 17-10 and Chattahoochee was eliminated by Westminster 20-7.

BASEBALL

Johns Creek scored its third straight series sweep in Class AAAA, beating Harris County 4-2 and 4-1 on the Gladiators' home field. Matthew Gorst went 6 2/3 innings for Johns Creek in the opener and Ryan O'Connell pitched a complete game to complete the sweep. The two pitchers are both 3-0 in the playoffs.

The Gladiators will play a doubleheader Monday at Loganville in the semifinals. If Johns Creek wins the series, the Gladiators will be at home next Saturday in a doubleheader against either Whitewater or Greenbrier, with the game to be played the following Monday.
