NORCROSS, Ga. – Chattahoochee ran into unbeaten and state-ranked Norcross in the first round of the state playoffs, and the Cougars were no match for the talented Blue Devils, losing 34-7 last Friday.
The Cougars (7-4) did not score a point on offense, with their only touchdown coming on a fumble recovery in the Norcross end zone by linebacker Trey Hillman.
The Norcross defense kept the Cougars in check, with Chattahoochee quarterback Travis Marshall completing six of 14 passes for 92 yards and an interception. Marshall was sacked six times. The Cougars' deepest penetration came in the third period, trailing 27-0. They reached the Norcross 12 before being stopped on downs.
After the Cougars scored on the fumble recovery, Norcross (11-0) responded with an 80-yard drive to put the game away.
Highly touted Norcross running back Alvin Kamara rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns and had a TD catch. Receiver Myles Autry had a 64-yard touchdown reception and set up another score with a 46-yard punt return.
The Cougars had beaten Norcross once in their four seasons in the same region with the Blue Devils in the past decade, but were one of four North Fulton teams to fall to a Gwinnett opponent in the first round of state playoffs.
