January 21, 2014ALPHARETTA, Ga. During the recent arctic blast that resulted in historic low temperatures combined with a high demand for public safety services, Alpharetta Fire Services excelled in their level of commitment and service provided to the city.
During the 48-hour period of Jan. 7 and 8, Alpharetta firefighters received more than 150 calls for service regarding broken water pipes or leaks that often resulted in the flooding of a business or residence.
Over the same two-day period, Alpharetta firefighters responded to 69 calls related to other emergency services, including one structure fire.
"I am very proud of the level of service provided by our 911 staff, our police officers and I'm especially proud of the work done by these firefighters under the most difficult of circumstances," said Alpharetta Public Safety Director Gary George.

Additionally, Alpharetta Public Safety supports a program called Smart911. This program is free and provides a great benefit to the residents of the community.
Smart911 is a free service that allows citizens to create a safety profile for their household that includes any information they want 911 to have in the event of an emergency. Then, when anyone in that household dials 911 from a phone associated with their safety profile, their profile is immediately displayed to the 911 call taker providing additional information that can be used to facilitate the proper response to the proper location. At a time when seconds count, being able to provide 911 with all details that could impact response the second an emergency call is placed could be the difference between life and death.
