Yates, Hutchins and Scrimo graduate Marine training

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. – Marine Corps Pfc. Dillian R. Yates, son of Stephanie Bray of Dawsonville and Paul R. Yates of Cumming, Marine Corps Pvt. Matthew D. Hutchins, son of Laura A. and David R. Hutchins of Alpharetta, and Marine Corps Pvt. Thomas J. Scrimo, son of Ellen M. Scrimo of Alpharetta and Paul Scrimo, of Stormville, N.Y., all earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.

For 13 weeks, Scrimo, Hutchins and Yates stayed committed during some of the world’s most demanding entry-level military training in order to be transformed from civilian to Marine. One week prior to graduation, they endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits’ minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.

Yates is a 2011 graduate of Dawson County High School of Dawsonville. Hutchins is a 2011 graduate of Faith Academy High School of Buford. Scrimo is a 2012 graduate of Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta.

Hamelly graduates Army basic training

LAWTON, Okla. – Army National Guard Pvt. Gabrielle J. Hamelly has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat and field maneuvers and tactics.

Hamelly is the daughter of Janine Hamelly of Cumming. She is a 2012 graduate of West Forsyth High School in Cumming.

McClure completes Air Force basic training

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Air Force Reserve Airman Soha P. McClure graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

McClure is the daughter of Byeong Park and Myung Kim, both of Alpharetta. She received a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
