March 25, 2013
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Two Forsyth County residents were killed in separate crashes last weekend.

Michele "Shelley" Keller Chesnut, 53, of Cumming, died in a cycling accident March 15 in North Georgia.

Peter Ian Roberts, 17, a senior at Central High School, died March 16 after a single-car accident on Ga. 306.

Chesnut, who worked at a Walmart Pharmacy for 23 years, was cycling with friends at Neels Gap, north of Dahlonega, when about 4 p.m. an SUV crossed the road hitting Chesnut head-on.

Chesnut died at the scene with her cycling friends by her side.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 30 years, Jim Chesnut and their four children, Adrienne, Alexander, Alivia and James; her sisters Anne Keller and Diana Weekly, both of Cumming; two brothers Steve Martinez of Myrtle Point Ore. and David Keller of Salisbury, Md.

Chesnut obtained her Pharmacy Degree at Auburn University in 1982. She and Jim married in 1983 and moved to Cumming. They have been members of the Cumming First United Methodist Church for about 25 years.

Before working at Walmart, Chesnut was a pharmacist at Goodson Drugs in downtown Cumming. She was an avid outdoors enthusiast, who enjoyed hiking, boating, travel and her favorite — cycling.

Services were held March 19 at the Cumming First United Methodist Church.

On March 16, Peter Ian Roberts was traveling westbound on Ga. 306 when he crossed into the eastbound lane, over-corrected and crashed into a mailbox on the driver's side of the vehicle, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Roberts also worked part-time at Stars and Strikes.

Fellow Central student Sabra Camp ‏said Roberts was very friendly.

"[He was] one of the first people to talk to me and make me feel at home when we moved here," Camp tweeted.

Roberts is survived by his parents, Tim and Karen Roberts; brother, Patrick, and sisters, Hannah, Olivia, Emma and Elena; and grandmother, Nell N. Boggs.

He was a member of The Vine Community Church and a former Boy Scout of Troop 245.

Services were held March 20 at The Vine Community Church.
