FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Post Road Library is five months away from completion.

The 23,500-square-foot full-service facility will mark the fourth branch of the Forsyth County Library System and is being built at 5010 Post Road near Midway Park.

About $7.2 million in voter-approved special purpose local option sales tax funds, impact fees and state construction grant money made the project a reality.

The Post Road Library will house 96,000 items and have a 100-seat capacity meeting room, said Carla Beasley, the library's project manager for construction.

"The new library is designed to serve all ages through programs, materials, technology and online resources," Beasley said.

A choice of desktop, laptop and tablet computers will be offered to patrons to use with free Wi-Fi access throughout the library.

The design goal of Post Road Library is to provide a "wow" moment as patrons enter the building, Beasley said, and then follow that moment with a comfortable, positive experience.

The interior color scheme reflects earthy hues. Entering the lobby, patrons will see a triptych collage commemorating the Drew community, including historical photos, maps and Census data from the early 1900s, when the Drew post office was established.

In the children's area will be a "Tree of Dreams," three panels of the top branches of a large, spreading tree, Beasley said.

Bryan White with Whitelake Studios is preparing the large artwork panels. The Forsyth County Arts Alliance awarded $9,700 to Post Road Library as a 50-50 match for these panels, Beasley said.

There will be a drive-up book drop and automated sorting equipment to quickly and efficiently handle returns.

Four small multi-use rooms offer patrons space for independent study, group projects and small meetings. Across the front of the building will be specialty rooms: a meeting room, a multipurpose computer lab and activities room, a teen space and the quiet room. Interior walls are glass so that light from the exterior windows will filter into the building for energy efficiency.

This will be Forsyth County's first to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver certification.

LEED means the facility will be energy and cost efficient with plenty of glass windows to allow better cooling and heating, as well as recycled materials used in the structure's foundation.

"It's going to be the library of the future in terms of sustainability," said Jon McDaniel during last year's groundbreaking ceremony.

Post Road Library is set to open in July 2013.
