FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A 61-year-old man involved in a head-on collision in Forsyth County on Jan. 4 has died.

Howard B. Nichelson, 61, of Canton, died Jan. 8 at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, according to Inv. Ron Tomblin of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Specialist Unit.

Nichelson had been on life support since the Jan. 4 collision.

The driver of the other vehicle, Linda D. Pollard, 75, of Big Canoe, Ga. remains in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center.

The collision happened on Friday, Jan. 4 on Ga. Hwy. 20 (Canton Hwy.) around 2 p.m. near the Cherokee County line.

Pollard was traveling westbound on Ga. Hwy. 20 in a 2005 Honda Pilot near the intersection of Business Drive, when she crossed over the center turn lane into the eastbound lane of Canton Hwy.

She struck a Ford F-350 van driven by Nichelson head-on.

Both drivers were entrapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated, according to investigators. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and the air bags deployed in both vehicles. No other persons were involved in the collision.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
