Sawnee announces Forsyth's second electric bill reduction this year

November 13, 2012
CUMMING, Ga. — Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation will lower the electricity rates for about 133,000 Sawnee members for the remainder of 2012, which includes energy bills processed in November and December.

It is estimated that this reduction, in total, will save Sawnee members $2.3 million in lower energy bills over this two-month period.

The corporation's board of directors recently approved the reduction in the wholesale power cost adjustment (WPCA) factor, a component by which the majority of Sawnee's electric bills are calculated.

This is the second such rate reduction in 2012 for Sawnee members.

"This is very good news and provides a much-needed break for our members," said Blake House, vice president of member services. "Especially after this past summer when so many people had higher-than-expected energy usage."

House said many of Sawnee's members continue to struggle financially.

"We know that many families are experiencing challenges in their lives and it is a privilege to be able to help in any way we can," he said.

Sawnee's WPCA factor is used in its retail rates to address various operating costs that are not being fully recovered through Sawnee's standard retail rates.

In May, the board approved a reduction in the WPCA factor of about $5.75 per month for the typical residential consumer who uses 1,500 kWh per month.

This most recent rate change, which went into effect on Oct. 31, will further reduce the energy bills that Sawnee EMC members receive in November and December by about $9.50 per 1,500 kWh used.

Also. It would help if we could pay online by different options. Is there any way this can be changed?
