Johns Creek Council prioritizes road improvement project

August 29, 2012
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Johns Creek Public Works Director Tom Black presented a proposal to reallocate $1 million from the city's 2012 budget to three Jones Bridge Road intersection improvement projects.

One project will widen northbound Jones Bridge Road from East Fox Road to Douglas Road. Other projects will construct capacity improvements on Jones Bridge Road from State Bridge to Kimball Bridge/Abbotts Bridge Road and from Waters Road to Old Alabama Road.

The most crucial objective is to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Johns Creek Parkway and Lakefield Drive. Black said this intersection has the highest rate of accidents with injuries in the entire city.

The city built up a financial surplus when it received federal and state funding and used past impact fees from Fulton County in the place of budgeted local funds. Thus, the project would be paid for largely from the fiscal year 2012 budget and past funding.

Even with the proposed funds reallocated, the project may still come up short by about $40,000.

However, Councilman Ivan Figueroa put forth a recommendation that the Public Works Department come before the council again should they run low on funds.

"If [the Public Works Department has] exhausted all its nooks and crannies looking for the dollars, I'd like [Black] to come back … to say where they are and if they're short, we can discuss it further," Figueroa said.

The council agreed to prioritize this project to ensure it is not delayed by funding.

I certainly hope SOMEONE at Johns Creek Public Works Dept is looking at Jones Br. from Barnwell to State Bridge which has been cut so many times it is close to being a one continuous pothole. Hey...Johns Creek City Council---South JC and Newtown IS part of the city---isn't it? Why do you keep forgetting about us?
