Patrick Donald Chisolm, Jr., died July 18

Col. Patrick Donald Chisolm, Jr., US Army (Ret), of Atlanta (Norcross), GA., passed away on July 18, 2013 at the age of 79 after an extended illness. His wife of 58 years, the former Nancy Alice Hudson, was by his side.

Pat was born on October 20, 1933 in Birmingham, AL. to the late Dr. Patrick Donald Chisolm and Zola Hall Chisolm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Sara Cooper and Eleanor Gant and Eleanor's husband Ned. Survivors include wife Nancy, sisters Mary Dantzler (Jim) of Atlanta, Becky Hutto (Bill) of Birmingham, AL, brother-in-law Sam Cooper of Hayneville, AL, sister-in-law Jean Smith of Birmingham, AL and many adoring nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grand nieces and nephews.

Pat grew up in First Presbyterian Church in downtown Birmingham and was an Eagle Scout in the troop there. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham in 1951 and from Auburn University in 1955, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Upon graduation from Auburn, Pat was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served his country with distinction for 30 years in various parts of the world, including service in Vietnam. He retired in 1985 as a full Colonel.

Pat and Nancy were active in the Presbyterian Church wherever they lived, their two most recent churches being in Alexandria, VA and Alpharetta, GA. Pat served on the worship committee, the Presbytery and as an elder and Clerk of the Session. He also sang in the choir and served in mission work and as a mentor to many youth as they were confirmed in the church. He was a faithful and effective follower of Christ. He was kind, helpful and generous to everyone he met. He was an active outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, but his passion was turkey hunting.

The family will gather to inter Pat's ashes in the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. Afterwards, a memorial service will be held at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church at 1:00PM (Est.) on Saturday, July 27, 2013. A reception and visitation with the family will follow.

Pat requested that memorial gifts be made to Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street, Alpharetta, GA 30009. Please designate gifts to either the church's music program (for guest artists) or the Memorial Garden.
