Ida Mame Dinsmore, 99, lifelong Alpharetta resident

October 01, 2012
Mrs. Ida Mame Dinsmore of Alpharetta lived for 99 years, 9 months and 16 days. She died Sept. 21, 2012.

She was born in Alpharetta to Lawson and Dora Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband Ford, son Lawrence Dinsmore, grandson Tracy Dinsmore and granddaughter Ronda Dinsmore.

Mrs. Dinsmore (Granny) was a lifelong resident of Alpharetta.

Mrs. Dinsmore was born at home Dec. 5, 1912. She married Ford Dinsmore in 1925. In 1950, they started a portable sawmill and lived on Redd Road. In 1963, the sawmill became a permanent structure at their residence. All staff lived on-site.

Mr. Dinsmore always told Ida that the best way to keep the men working was with a full belly, so that's what she did, three meals a day, seven days a week.

Mr. Dinsmore died in 1987, but sons Lawrence and Thomas continued to run the sawmill until they retired and sold the land in 1998 which is now Reddstone subdivision.

"Mrs. Dinsmore was truly a very proud woman with more heart and integrity of any person I have ever met. She will truly be missed," said Todd Dinsmore.

She is survived by her son Thomas Dinsmore, granddaughter Gina Crowell and her husband Tom; grandson Jeff Dinsmore; great-grandson Phillip Dinsmore; great-great-granddaughter Cloe Dinsmore, great-granddaughter Tracy Dinsmore, grandson Scott Dinsmore, great-granddaughters Ashley and Allison Dinsmore, granddaughter Terri Howard and her husband Todd, step great-grandsons Christopher and Austin Howard, step great-granddaughter Emily Howard, great-grandson Brandon Toole, son of the late Ronda Dinsmore, granddaughter Kathy Lamerson and her husband Steve, grandsons Steve, Joe and Matt Lamerson, great-granddaughter Taylor, Morgan and Grace Lamerson, granddaughter Lugenia D. Yerger, granddaughter Susie Hulen and her husband Tim, great-grandson Joseph Hulen, granddaughter Cheryl Stephens and her husband Jim and great-grandsons Bradley and Andrew Stephens.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 24, at the Funeral Home at Northside Chapel with Rev. James E. "Budd" Sutton officiating.
