I agree with the writer of the letter to the editor saying the names of teenagers should not be published. To report is one thing; to name names of underage kids is another.
As a journalist, couldn't you come up with a better way to report these type incidents and still feel like you have not "hidden the truth?"
I personally do not think you naming these kids' names was a "necessary service to the larger community" and believe you are just trying to justify an insensitive and poor decision to list their names by claiming such.
I did not know any of the kids or their parents and would have gotten the gist of the story without the list. Reporting is one thing; smearing is another. If I was interested in their names, I would have gone to the police reports. This is not to say I condone their behavior.
